8 whole months. Wow! I can't believe it. So here's the update. My locs are coming along...well sorta. I'm beginning to become nervous again. Not knowing how my locs will turn out is just about maddening to me. Since I've cut my permed ends, I am experiencing alot unraveling and I not sure how to handle it. Because my locs are shorter and I can't style as I once did, I'm starting to notice other things, like my parts. My parts in the top center and front are not parts at all. The locs appear to be sporadic. The person who retightens my locs said that there were straight parts, but perhaps were lost when I fell behind for one of my retightening sessions. (????)
I'm seriously considering taking them down to have some uniform parts put in. BUT here's the other dilemma, I really do like my locs. Sure there are some corrections that need to be made but overall I don't want to start over. I don't know what to do...

Are you able to part your locs the same day after your re-ti?
I'm not sure I would give up 8 months worth of progress and the money to have someone do it again, not to mention the money that's already been spent. You know I had to comment on the money side. But, ultimately you have to be satisfied with it. Just think about it and explore all options first.
Msfullroller, I can't make any parts in the front and center of my head. Not even after a retight. However, I have notice that are semi straight parts. It's almost as if the reason I don't have parts there is because during the retights hair was grabbed from surrounding locks. I'm now trying to figure out if I can correct what I have instead of taking down a section. Maybe as new growth comes in I could snip the lines a little straighter? It makes sense in my head but I not quite sure of the outcome. Sigh....on to more research. Forward me any ideas if you get them, would ya.
Hi Kickukalah,
I have held back from commenting on this for as long as I could... but I'm here now cos I can't keep quiet any longer!
I'm not sure how regularly you go for your retightenings. I go once every 8 weeks. Of course I have loads of new growth BUT I still have every one of my front and center parts (even with having some of my fragile locs combined!) - isn't that why we go to consultants in the first place?
I feel your pain! I would be incredibly frustrated to have paid out for the SL system with its famous 'grid' only to have them eroded/lost a couple of months later.
Like Ms Fullroller, I'd hate for you to come this far and give up, so hang in there if you can - but I do understand your desire to have the front at least 'redone'. Whatever you decide, make sure it's the right decision for YOU!
Be encouraged!!
Hey Sis, have you decided or are you still in research mode?
Maybe you can take some pics to show us what's up so that we can offer suggestions.
I do hope that you are no longer seeing that consultant. 1 yr later, I too like BajanLily, still have my original parts unless it's where I've combined locs but those are just larger in size compared to the partings nearby.
msfullroller, I decided that I was going to start to maintain my hair. I have noticed a part on top of my head that is not centered, but rather of to the side a bit. I may just keep it. I am going to post pics soon. My 9 month anniversary is coming up next week and I think self maintenance would be a great gift. Plus it'll save money. Stay tuned.
Me again!
You know all about my fragile locs - some of which were combined to strengthen them right?
Well the way some of them were combined I lost a couple of parts at the front ie they were no longer straight from the front of my head - you had to go back a few locs to start a line.
My new consultant has actually split them and I have straight lines again. Maybe this gives you hope for your lines? Hope so!
Maybe that would be an option for me later. Like I mentioned before, I'm ok with not having the parts so straight now. Then again, my locs are semi-short and all I do is freestyle. Maybe with some length i would consider your suggestion. I don't know.
I have started retightening my self and I have made some corrections already! It's been 1 day and I've already completed half of my head. It is so invigorating to be able to maintain my own locks.
